Dinner at Bar + Block Steakhouse, Bath

Hidden away next to the Premier Inn by Kingsmead Square, a new steakhouse has popped up: Bar + Block.

What we ordered
  • Crispy gnocchi bites seasoned with parmesan & truffle infused oil
  • Chargrilled vegetables & hummus 
  • Atlantic scallops in garlic butter & chorizo
  • 8oz fillet steak with béarnaise sauce, french fries & house salad
  • 8oz fillet steak with béarnaise sauce, sweet potato fries & house salad 
  • Triple chocolate brownie with a chocolate coffee sauce & vanilla ice cream 
  • Fruit salad with coconut sorbet
  • A bottle of Graffigna Centenario Malbec

Our thoughts

We chose an array of starters to try and the hummus with vegetables and scallops were very tasty. The gnocchi bites, however, were a little bit dry and the flavour didn't come through very much on them.

Everyone at Bar + Block was absolutely lovely, and their recommendation of Argentinian Malbec went perfectly with the steaks which were honestly incredible, tender and melt-in-your-mouth. You can never go wrong with a fillet cut and the fries and salad accompanying them were well-seasoned.

We then moved onto desserts (I'm not sure how we had the room, to be honest), which were super indulgent and finished the meal perfectly.

Overall it was a great experience and we would definitely recommend it as a place for good steak, chips and wine.  Don't worry if you don't like or don't eat red meat though, as Bar + Block has lots of fish and vegetarian options for everyone to enjoy.
