Fish & Chips at The Scallop Shell, Bath

If you haven't heard of the Scallop Shell yet, I'm not quite sure where you've been. It's arguably (and in our opinion) the best place for seafood in Bath. Its fish and chips are reason enough for a visit, not to mention their nautical-themed interiors.

We ventured down Monmouth Street to test out their new Fisherman's Lunch Menu - £10 for one of their main dishes (fish & chips is always an option, thankfully), buttered bread and a mug of Yorkshire tea. You can't get more British than that.

What we ordered

  • Fish & Chips (cod) from the Fisherman's Lunch Menu
  • Seasonal vegetables in garlic butter

Our thoughts

We were told that the portion of fish and chips from the menu was slightly smaller than the normal one but it was honestly so large that neither of us could finish it despite how delicious it was.

The fish was fresh, perfectly crispy and flaky inside and the chips that came with it were the best version of the chips that accompany the fish in the famous British dish. We ordered the seasonal vegetables in an effort to offset our deep-fried food sins, and they were incredibly good too. Just the perfect amount of garlic butter.

The Scallop Shell doesn't only have fish and chips on the menu either. They're a full seafood restaurant, offering all kinds of different fish on a daily basis - this is to make sure that you only eat the highest quality, seasonal fish and seafood.

If you have been before, you remember that The Scallop Shell didn't used to make reservations. Good news, they now do! No more waiting in line if you're organised (although the wait would definitely be worth it).

We would highly, highly recommend the Scallop Shell to anyone who loves fish. Of course, there are other meat and vegetarian options on the menu, however the fish and chips was very, very tasty and at £10 you can't really go wrong for lunch time.
