Dinner at Absurd Bird, Bath

If you're a massive fried chicken fan then you've probably heard of Absurd Bird, a chicken shack with a Deep Southern feel

What we ordered

  • Crunchy Soul Bowl - grilled chicken, quinoa, kidney beans, sweetcorn, broccoli & house dressing
  • AB Traditional waffles - fried chicken, absurd gravy & maple syrup
  • Mac & Cheese side
  • Sweet potato fries

Our thoughts

The flavour in the salad was yummy and tasted really fresh. It came with these tortilla chips which were huuuuge and there were little tortilla chip pieces running through the salad which added a nice crunch. The portion was really generous and I was actually full (!) sometimes ordering salads at restaurants is a sad story, but this one was really substantial.

The waffles were super yummy too, but they definitely made you feel like your saturated fat levels were through the roof. The combination of gravy and maple syrup sounded a little bit weird on the menu but the maple syrup actually worked really well to offset the saltiness of the gravy and both sauces were kind of absorbed by the waffle to give it lots of flavour.

The mac & cheese was realllyyy good and the sweet potato fries were 😍 but they're literally my favourite thing to order at any restaurant so I guess I'm a little biased.

When it was time to choose a dessert we made a team decision that we were way too full for anything else 🙈

Overall, we had a very pleasant experience, although to be honest, it's not really somewhere we would often go back to just because of the nature of the food. That being said, it was positively surprising to see that they did have healthier alternatives for those that didn't want deep-fried chicken (and some veggie options too).

Loads of the tables in the restaurant are booths, creating a super cosy feel and the prices were very reasonable, especially considering the portion sizes.

They also do student discount and have special offers on during the week - but only if you book online. They have 50% off on a Monday, 50% off on burgers on a Tuesday, bottomless wings on a Wednesday and at the weekend they do bottomless brunch for £30 - not really cheap but there aren't too many places in Bath that offer this so that's cool.

Oh and they also have Happy Hour every day 🥂

Thanks for inviting us Absurd Bird & thanks to the lovely team who served us ✌🏼
