Brunch at Cafe Walcot, Bath

Cafe Walcot, just above Walcot House (where Club XL used to be... if any of you remember 🙃), opened late last year and we finally had the chance to try it out after lots of recommendations by you guys!

What we ordered
  • Full English breakfast
  • Homemade granola with natural yoghurt and fresh berries
  • Avocado toast with halloumi

Our thoughts

The full English breakfast came with bacon, sausage, free range eggs, mushroom, tomato, black pudding, home baked beans and sourdough toast. The bacon was crispy 🥓 and the poached eggs were cooked to perfection 🍳.

All of the meat and eggs are free range as well as locally sourced and you could really taste the freshness in this dish. It wasn't greasy like a lot of other fried breakfasts are and the meat was very good quality.

The avocado toast 🥑 with pan fried halloumi came on sourdough toast and was served with chilli yoghurt and dukkah. This was amazing - the halloumi had just the right consistency and the dukkah (the things that look like chilli flakes) really enhanced the overall taste of the avocado and halloumi. This was one of our favourites.

The homemade granola was another one of our favourites. It was made of "only the good stuff" (no nasty preservatives!) and was super cinnamony. We loved it so much that we asked if they sold it but sadly they don't - you need to try this!

Overall, all of the food that we had was great (particularly the avo toast with halloumi and the granola, although we also loved the full English... don't make us decide)! The portions are also very good, not stingy at all.

It's also less busy than the regular brunch/cafe favourites in Bath (BTP, Society Cafe, Wild Cafe etc.) which is quite a nice change sometimes. This is probably because it's a little bit 'hidden'. When you get to 90b Walcot Street you need to go down a little back alley on the right-hand side when you look at the building.

The cafe is airy and not overly decorated or kitsch and the staff were super friendly and laid back.

We would definitely recommend Cafe Walcot for anyone who is looking for a new brunch place to try. Their lunch menu also looks insane! You can find both of them here (click!)

Thanks so much for taking care of us, I'm sure we will be back very soon 🤩.
