Burgers at Magu Diner, Bath

Magu Diner is a burger bar right in the heart of Oldfield Park on Moorland Road - perfect for all of you uni students who live in the classic "just off of Moorland Road" area 🍔.

What we ordered
  • The Overload Burger
  • The All-American Burger
  • Curly Fries
  • Halloumi Fries
  • Peanut butter, oreo, cookie dough brownie with caramel ice cream

Our thoughts

Overall, both burgers are ranked in our top 3 burgers ever (big statement).

The Overload came with two thin smashed beef patties, BBQ pulled pork, crispy smoked streaky bacon, Monterey Jack American cheese, chipotle baconnaise, pickled red onion, lettuce, jalapenos and Magu burger sauce 🍔🐮🐷🥓🥬.

The All-American came with two thin smashed beef patties, fried onions, double American cheese, lettuce, sweet pickles, Magu burger sauce, ketchup and American mustard 🍔🧀🥬🍅

We marginally preferred the Overload, a decadent mix of both beef and pork. It was a little more innovative than the more standard All-American, which was a more classic version. Both were delicious.

For both burgers, there is special care given to the ingredients. For example, the pickles are sliced very thinly and the bread is really moist and fluffy so it all mixes really well together.

The key ingredient that makes the burgers so amazing is the "Magu burger sauce". We can't quite describe what's in it, but it's definitely the burgers' unique selling point.

The menu, in general, is quite creative and you see many burgers that you wouldn't have anywhere else, for example, mac & cheese in a burger.

It's great value for money and the portions are really generous.

The curly fries were great but we didn't like the halloumi fries that much. We thought that they were a bit too greasy (but of course, we were comparing these to the incredible ones we had just had at Cafe au Lait... so our standards for halloumi fries are quite high now 😅. For a review of that, 👉🏼 click here). The halloumi itself is good quality though and is sourced directly from a farm just outside of Bath so we're sure that the halloumi burger is amazing.

The peanut butter, oreo and cookie dough brownie was really good, but the mix was a bit much. If you've got a massive sweet tooth then you would probably like it though. The caramel ice cream was so yummy 🍦.

We didn't try the milkshakes, but they've got so many different options to try from. It's also worth noting that they have vegetarian options (halloumi), as well as different meats such as lamb and fried buttermilk chicken.

The diner itself has a kind of diner/bar vibe with 80s music. There's a really nice atmosphere in there and their playlist matches the spirit of the restaurant perfectly 🕺🏼.

Thanks Magu! You left us feeling really full & will definitely come back for some burgers.
