Monday to Saturday Set-Lunch Menu at The Chequers, Bath

If you live in Bath, you have no doubt heard of the Chequers, a cosy pub at the top of town on Rivers Street. You have probably been there for Sunday lunch, but did you know that they have a great value Monday-Saturday lunch menu? At just £19.95, you can get a gorgeous three-course meal.

Keep reading to see what we ate and what our verdict is.

We started by sharing a soup of the day, which was carrot and coriander with homemade bread 🥣🍞🥕

The soup was delicious, even for someone who has a love/hate relationship with coriander (who's with me?!) and was really creamy. The bread was nice, although it would have been nice to have more than one slice. [£19.95 set menu]

For our mains, we had the hake served with lentils in a lemon, dill, capers, samphire dressing with brown crab mayonnaise and seaweed tuile 🐟🍋🌿

The hake was cooked to perfection, and the lentils were a nice "healthy" side, but they were a little bit too salty for me. I didn't eat much for the seaweed tuile, but it looked amazing for plate presentation. We also ordered an extra side of fries which were amazing - hot, crispy and delicious. [£19.95 set menu]

A glass of the Domaine Bernard Defaix Chablis (France) worked amazingly with this dish. [£6.50 for 125ml]

The beef burger came with coleslaw, bacon jam and fries 🍔🍟🥓

You can add either cheese or bacon to it, and we opted for just cheese. The burger was okay - good but not amazing. The bacon jam was tasty and different, but it almost overpowered the beef patty. [£15]

To finish, we shared the dark chocolate terrine with honeycomb, pistachio and passion fruit coulis 🍫

It was delicious, creamy and *very* indulgent. The passion fruit coulis added the perfect tart, fruity twist to the chocolate and the sprinkled salt offset some of its sweetness. The honeycomb was delicious, but obviously, as honeycomb does, it gets stuck in your teeth so it's kind of difficult to eat. We would highly recommend this dessert for chocolate lovers. 🌟 The gastropub is cosy with wooden furniture and a nice bar. We ate our lunch here while it was pouring down with rain in Bath last week. Dogs are welcome!

🌿 Some vegetarian options. Not good for vegans. Okay for gluten-free.

🤵🏻 Friendly staff & quick service

💰 ££ - Their Mon-Sat lunch set menu (that we ordered, apart from the burger) is great value at £19.95 for three courses. Alternatively, you can choose the two-course set menu for £16.
