Drinks at The Dark Horse, Bath

Kingsmead Square is one of my favourite spots in Bath, with such an eclectic mix of independents, something very different to the 'main' city centre itself which is becoming dominated by chains. Next to Society Cafe, you may have noticed a fabulous underground bar named 'The Dark Horse'.

If you want to support your local economy and businesses, the Dark Horse is an excellent place to do so. In fact, they couldn't really be any more independent and local if they tried. The menu has several local products and ingredients from English wines and South West beers, to some fruits and herbs which have been "foraged from the lush and bountiful hills that surround this fine city". Even some of the furniture has been sourced by antique dealers in Bath, or created by the owner himself.

As soon as you walk down the steps you're greeted by a friendly member of staff, jazz soul music and the perfect atmosphere for date night. We were quickly seated, given water and a cocktail menu.

Kholstomer - Darjeeling infused Russian Standard gold vodka, Morello cherry liqueur, fresh lemon and honey 🍒🍋 [£9]

This was a short cocktail with a mature flavour which was zesty, sharp and fresh.

Golden Bridle - Beefeater gin, house-made pineapple & sage shrub, fresh ginger, blackberry, soda 🍍[£9]

This one was on the sweeter side and was so easy to drink!

Then we had a second round of drinks...

Romulus - Wild Turkey bourbon, 3 yr Somerset Cider Brandy, dark cacao, pomegranate molasses, honey, lemon, egg white 🍫🍯 [£9.50]

This was served in an ice-cold tumbler and was slightly less sweet than the others, but fragrant and smooth.

Manhattan - Wild Turkey bourbon, sweet vermouth, maraschino, angostura bitters 🍒🥃 [£9.50]

The traditional Manhattan has whiskey, red vermouth and angostura bitters in it, but this house recipe of the Manhattan is a little bit different and delicious. It's both smooth and strong.

🌟 Overall, the vibe is perfect for either relaxed drinks with friends, or a romantic spot for a date. It's very cosy and chilled out. With an extensive cocktail list you really are spoilt for choice. This is one of the best bars in Bath by far, and if I were going on a first date I would definitely go here.

🤵🏻 The staff are very friendly and are more than accomodating if you fancy a more classic cocktail, or if you want to make changes to a few cocktails. They're highly trained mixologists and really know their stuff. They also constantly top you up with water which is so important if you want to keep hydrated and avoid that hangover the next morning - not many bars do this unless you ask!

🌿 They also offer light bites such as olives, hummus and pita breads to enjoy with your drinks.
