Lunch at Hondo Sushi, Bath

Hondo Sushi has only been open for about half a year, but it has already built quite a name for itself in the Bath food scene 🍣. Located in the city centre right next to Hondo Chinese Supermarket, the restaurant offers hand-made sushi as well as a variety of other Japanese dishes, including ramen and bento boxes. With an extensive menu of delicious-looking food, we were very excited to try out the restaurant.

We had a variety of different dishes, including some of their popular sushi rolls, a salad and a noodle dish. 😋

We started with small sushi plates.

Salmon Nigiri 🍣 [£3.80]

Triple Taste (salmon, eel, avocado) 🥑 [£4.50]

Sake No Hana (salmon, crab, mayo, fish roe) 🦀 [£4.50] (left)

Tobiko (rice with fish roe wrapped in seaweed) [£3] (right)

We really loved all of these dishes. The fish tasted very fresh and the rolls were full of flavour. Our favourites were the Sake No Hana and the Triple Taste - both had interesting flavour combinations and were really delicious. We loved the mix of two types of seafood in each one.

The Tobiko is just rice and fish roe, so it tastes strongly of the latter. If you like it, it's great but if not then we wouldn't suggest ordering it. It's quite salty and has a peculiar taste, but we really like it.

Salmon Temaki (hand roll) 🐟 [£3.60] (far right)

This had salmon, avocado, lettuce, cucumber and rice wrapped in nori (seaweed). It was nice and the fish was really fresh, but it's one of the more classic menu items so perfect for someone who wants something a bit simpler.

Dyanamite Roll (salmon with avocado (fried) topped with katsuboshi, dried & smoked tuna flakes) 🍤 [£10.20]

The Dynamite Roll was served warm, and was beautifully presented. It's a very filling, fried roll and we loved the katsuboshi topping.

Grilled Scallop with sweet chilli 🌶 [£7 for two]

This dish is great as a starter. The fresh scallops were grilled with cheese, and the chilli adds a little kick to it. This was a favourite of ours and definitely worth a try.

Kataifi Prawn 🦐 [£6]

The prawns were wrapped in noodles, which didn't add much taste but gave an extra crunch to the dish. They weren't greasy at all and were served with a really delicious dipping sauce.

Sweet Potato Croquette 🍠 [£4.20]

These were lovely and are a great side for veggies or sweet potato lovers.

Tempura Bento 🍱 [£13.50]

The box came with different types of tempura (shrimp and vegetables), salmon and tuna sashimi, crab-avocado maki, rice and a side salad. These boxes are a great option if you're in for a quick lunch, as they have a bit of everything and are available in many different varieties.

They also have vegetarian ones! Everything in the box was tasty, but the tempura did lack some salt. That being said, it's better than it being too salty as you can always dip it in soya sauce.

Crab stick salad 🦀 [£7.50]

This was very tasty. It had different types of lettuce, veggies and many pieces of delicious, fresh and flavourful crab. It also had a great dressing which complemented everything well and brought it together.

Seafood Fried Udon 🍜 [£13]

This was another favourite and it came with different types of fresh seafood including shrimp, squid and mussels. This dish was quite a big portion and would be great as a main course.

Overall, we liked so many of the dishes. You could really tell that everything was made fresh, using high-quality ingredients. There is such a variety of things on the menu, no wonder it's such a hit in Bath! We would strongly recommend it to sushi and Japanese food lovers alike.

🌟 The interiors are clean and modern with tasteful Asian decorations. They are able to cater to large groups as well.

🤵🏻 We didn't have to wait long at all for our food to arrive, considering that we had ordered so many different options on the menu. The staff are very welcoming and friendly.

🌿 They have many vegetarian and vegan options.
