New Cocktail Menu at The Common Room, Bath

Behind the Assembly rooms right in the city centre lies a rum lover's paradise. The Common Room is a tiki-style cocktail bar which makes creative, delicious drinks with over 100 varieties of rum. You may have seen our review of it last month (click here 👈🏼 if you want to read that), but this week we were invited back to try out their new cocktail menu.

Strawberry & Rhubarb Daiquiri 🍓 [£8]

This cocktail was a mix of strawberry shrub, rhubarb jam, Mount Gay Eclipse rum and lime. It was really fruity and had the perfect sweet-sour balance, making it really easy to drink. It was one of our favourites!

Melon Farmers Punch 🍍 [£8]

This was a mix of fresh pineapple juice, fresh honeydew melon juice, Appleton Estate Signature blend rum, grenadine and bitters. This one is for those who enjoy a more tropical cocktail. The kick of the pineapple really brings out the rum and the pineapple leaf for decoration completed the exotic style of the drink perfectly.

Mountain Rose 🌹 [£8]

This was a mix of Mount Gay Eclipse rum, rose petal spirit liqueur, ginger liqueur, elderflower syrup, lemon juice and lemonade. It had a strong rose fragrance and a delightful level of acidity with a slightly bitter, sour taste and is beautifully decorated with flowers.

Plum Rummer 🍑 [£8]

This was a mix of  Matusalem 15 rum, plum sake, apricot syrup and peach bitters. This was probably the strongest rum cocktail that we had (or at least the one that tasted the strongest). The taste was amazing and the sweetness of the apricots complemented the Matusalem rum excellently. This was another one of our favourites.

What we loved about the bar was that all of their cocktails came with an interesting twist. Apart from rum cocktails, they also make the classics and mocktail options.

The bartenders are great - super fun and friendly. They encourage customers to try new flavours and interesting drinks that they wouldn't usually order via their treasure map. You need to follow the map by trying each cocktail on it to get tokens, win a prize or get a discount. A pretty cool concept if you ask us!

Of course, they also have their cocktail countdown that we talked about in our previous review.

Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your age) we have to note that the bar has a strict 21+ policy, so it's not ideal for some younger students.

🌟 It's a nicely decorated space with an easy-going vibe. Although it might look like it's on the smaller side, it has two floors and lots of space for large groups. It's one of the most fun bars in Bath as it opens from 5pm for cocktails until late night for events such as Latino Mondays, Drum & Bass Thursdays and has various DJ parties throughout the weekend. Overall, we loved it and we would definitely recommend it for dates, hen parties and a fun night out.

🤵🏻 The staff are really enthusiastic and friendly. You can tell that they're interested in what they do and are thus well-informed. They have great knowledge of rum and cocktail variations and can make great recommendations based on someone's taste.
