Vegan Lunch at Roots & Shoots, Bath

Roots & Shoots is a 100% vegan deli and cafe serving a great range of plant-based warm drinks, mains and sweet treats. It's right next to the train station, so it's an ideal spot for everyone to grab vegan croissants, sausage rolls and other goodies.

This week, we headed down their to try some of their menu in honour of #veganuary 🌱. It opened back at the end of 2018 but we hadn't visited for a while!

Taster Box - mac n cheeze (topped with smoky coconut facon), roast root veggies and salad 🧀🍠[£7.50]

This was a nice, filling meal which was really comforting. The mac and cheeze was delicious with a hint of coconut flavour which wasn't overpowering. It was quite creamy and everything that you would want from the dish. The veggies and salad were a really nice accompaniment.

Fusion box - BBQ jerk jackfruit, chickless bites and falafel on roast root veggies, salad and slaw 🥗 [£7.50]

Neither of us had tried the famous BBQ jerk jackfruit used in lots of vegan recipes before, so we were eager to try it. The verdict? We were thoroughly impressed with both the taste and texture of it. Very 'meaty' and filling. Just look at the close-up photos!

The chickless bites were also great and overall the dish was a great option for those vegans who like their meat substitutes. We probably preferred this main meal out of the two but both were great.

Spelt quinoa croissant 🥐 [£2.50]

Croissants (and parmesan) are probably the two things that we would find hardest to give up if we adopted a 100% vegan diet. Although it's difficult to imagine a world where butter isn't the primary ingredient in pastries, this croissant was actually really good!

We were amazed that they could create similar kind of layers in the pastry and it had a salty-sweet flavour that we absolutely loved. Is it as good as the classic buttery, flaky croissant? No. However, this is a godsend for those following a plant-based diet who miss having their yummy pastries.

Turmeric latte with oat milk & Zen latte (blend of turmeric and chai latte) ☕️ [£3.50]

Both were lovely. We love turmeric lattes and it had a great earthy taste. The zen latte was sweet and kind of festive, the perfect thing for a cold afternoon!

You can also get any pastry and a hot drink for £3.95 which is a great way to try both their warm, comforting drinks as well as their vegan croissants.

🌟 Located in a cute restaurant with a lovely courtyard area, it's a fab place to either have lunch in or grab it and go.

🤵🏻 Friendly staff.
