Lunch at NOOK, Frome

NOOK is an Aussie-style cafe in Frome (just a 30-minute drive from Bath) serving up breakfast bowls, Hawaiian-inspired poke bowls, juices & smoothies. Juices are freshly made each morning and their menu is 100% gluten-free with more than half of it being vegan. The ingredients are organic, local & ethically-sourced where possible which is great considering that their dishes are well-priced.

Shiitake & tofu broth bowl 🍄 [£7.50]

This bowl of goodness was a mix of miso broth, sweet & spicy tofu, pickled shiitake mushrooms, pak choi, broccoli, carrot ribbons, spring onions, brown rice noodles, nori & sesame seeds.

This was amazing! We absolutely loved it as it was very filling with a variety of veggies. It was so flavoursome and had a real umami taste to it. The pickled shiitake mushrooms really stood out to us and they were seasoned to perfection. We were actually feeling a little poorly when we visited NOOK and this was the perfect pick-me-up bowl of warmth & comfort. It was slightly spicy, but it was well-balanced and definitely not overbearing.

We also decided to try one of their famous poké bowls. Originally from Hawaii, poké bowls are diced raw fish served with other veggies and usually rice. We went for their tuna one.

Tuna poké bowl with shoyu marinade, edamame, pickled cucumber, brown sushi rice, pineapple salsa and ginger 🐟 [£9]

Wow this was so delicious, not to mention gorgeous and colourful. There were so many different flavours in this bowl full of healthy & nutritious ingredients. The fish was fresh, the cucumber added a zing and the pineapple salsa & ginger added a zesty flavour to the whole dish. Shoyu is a kind of soya sauce so it added lots of salty umami flavour too.

This was the large one for £9, but the smaller size is £7 which we've had before & is a good portion size!

Turmeric superlatte ☕️ [£3]

This was creamy and not overly sweet. It was made with coconut milk and the coconut flavour was perfectly blended with the turmeric. It also had cinnamon in it which added a nice warmth, making it perfect wintery weekend drink.

'Red' cold-pressed juice 🥤 [£3.50]

A mix of beetroot, carrot, apple, ginger & lime, the 'red' juice is a delicious mix of earthy and spicy flavours. It's our favourite juice from here so we were naturally very happy with it. It's bright & lifts the spirit haha!

🌟 The interiors are exactly what you would expect from an Aussie-inspired place. Minimalist, vibey and laid back. We loved NOOK and we just wish that we had one in Bath!
