Dinner at the Pig & Fiddle, Bath

The Pig & Fiddle has had a makeover! The back bar has been redesigned, there's new built-in seating with dining height tables and lots of vintage rugs, antique mirrors and an eclectic collection of artwork. It's much more up-to-date and they've also launched a new menu including pub snacks and sharing platters alongside their pub classics. 🐷🎻

Ham hock & parmesan croquetas 🧀 [£7]

These were cheesy, crispy and had lots of ham in them. Super indulgent and the best comfort pub food you could think of on a cold evening.

Baby back ribs with Butcombe IPA BBQ sauce 🍖 [£7]

This starter was also really indulgent with nice flavours. These were slightly spicy, the meat was succulent and the bbq sauce was a little different with the IPA.

Goose skirt steak 10oz (beef, not goose haha!) with skin-on fries 🥩 [£16]

This was served medium rare with a red wine sauce and beef dripping crumbs. This cut is known for being full of flavour and the sauce it came with had a hint of mushroom flavour which accompanied it well and we really liked.

The beef dripping crumbs were too fatty for us (although that is the nature of beef dripping anything so if you like it, you'll probably like these). The fries were nice and thin & crispy.

Flat iron chicken with chimichurri and skin-on fries 🍗 [£13.50]

The chicken was well cooked without being dry and was a nice, super garlicky dish. As a garlic lover, we really liked it but it might be a bit too overpowering for some. Chimichurri is a delicious marinade and kind of sauce consisting mainly of chilli, garlic, olive oil and herbs (parsley, coriander & oregano).

In this case, perhaps the garlic to other ingredients ratio was slightly off, and we wish it had slightly more herbal notes to cut through it. Nevertheless, it was better than we expected and was overall a nice main.

Affogato 🍨 [£4]

We loved this so much! It came with a delicious salted caramel ice cream and was made using Clifton coffee espresso. The strong, bitter coffee flavours complemented the creamy, sweet ice cream perfectly.

Yorkshire rhubarb crumble 🥄 [£6]

This staple dessert was lovely and tart. You can either get this for one or to share, and we swear we ordered the single one but the portion was huge!

Ponte Miliano Sangiovese (house red) 🍷

Quite nice and easy to drink without being too strong - the ideal thing to have with a casual pub meal.

The portions on everything were great and we left feeling so stuffed! The menu itself is quite small but it has enough options to please everyone - different meat grills, pub classics like fish & chips, as well as some salads and sandwiches including vegan and gluten-free options. Overall the selection of beer is decent and it's great for group meals - most people dining were groups of friends rather than couples.

What we love is how local a lot of the produce and ingredients are. They use Ruby & White Butchers in Bristol for their meats, Kingfisher in Brixham for fish, Arthur David in Chew Valley as their greengrocer and Granny Gothards from Taunton for their ice creams and sorbets. These little details really do make a difference.

🌟 Lovely rustic & cosy pub vibes.

🤵🏻 Friendly and attentive.
