Sunday Roast at The Bathwick Boatman, Bath

We were recently invited to the Bathwick Boatman, a lovely independent pub/restaurant known for their delicious Sunday Roasts. We made our way down to the boating station and chose a table with big bright windows (on which was a festive cracker)!

To drink, we ordered a pint of Tunnel Vision steam infused Ale 4.2. This is super local and actually comes from one of a team member’s family brewery. We really liked this! It wasn’t bitter at all and had a really nice flavour. 

They have a special Sunday menu with lots of starter, main and dessert options. You can get 3 courses for £29 or 2 courses for £23. The mains obviously focus on roasts, but they have a vegan option and a non-roast option if you don't fancy it. They also have kids portions which is great for families (2 courses for £14).
 Right now it looks super festive and beautiful!

For our starters we went for:

Beetroot-cured home-smoked salmon with lightly pickled vegetables 🐟 

The salmon was beautifully smoked & the beetroot added a lovely colour. The texture of the pickled vegetables added just the right amount of crunch needed to complement the salmon. The owners smoke the salmon themselves & we would highly recommend this dish. 

Crispy calamari with lemon aioli 🦑 

While the aioli and salad were both delicious and the calamari were nicely battered, they didn’t have much flavour themselves. 

Moving onto mains:

Roast beef 🥩

Perfectly cooked, tender & juicy cuts of topside beef. The meat was amazing and melted in the mouth. We enjoyed every bite & didn't want it to end. One of the best beef roasts we have ever had!

Roast leg of lamb 🍖 

Nicely cooked, tender & flavoursome, it paired well with a lovely mint sauce. This one was also lovely but we preferred the roast beef which was incredible.

Both roasts were served with roast potatoes, greens, carrots, braised red cabbage and cauliflower, broccoli & leeks in a cheese sauce, Yorkshire puddings & gravy 

The roast potatoes were crisp, yet soft & fluffy inside. The red cabbage was phenomenal, as well as the honey-roasted carrots & greens in the cheese sauce. The portion of veggies was significant: the owners told us that the majority of the work goes into preparing the veggies and it definitely pays off. 

The desserts looked so good that we had to try some of them.

Warm chocolate brownie & coconut ice cream 🍫 

The rich brownie was delicious. The combination of coconut & chocolate worked really well and we loved the addition of the sauce which added so much extra yumminess.

Vanilla cheesecake, berry compote, & blackcurrant ice cream 🍓 

The cheesecake has subtle hints of vanilla that worked very well with the berries. It was a light and fruity dessert option!

Along with our desserts, we also ordered some dessert wine: Il Cascinone Moscato [£6.50 per glass]

The owners & staff were all super friendly and welcoming. It’s a lovely independent and the atmosphere & setting were so festive, warm & lovely. The Christmas crackers on our table were a lovely touch and we had a great experience. We will be back very soon! 
If you'd prefer to not eat in at the moment, The Bathwick Boatman are also doing takeaway roasts which is really exciting.
They also have a *great* outdoor seating area!
