Martini Ristorante is a lovely independent and authentic Italian restaurant in Bath. In fact, it's actually one of the first places I ever ate at when first moving here in 2014. As soon as we walked through the door we were kindly met with members of staff greeting us with 'ciao' and 'buongiorno'!

We were recently invited to the Bathwick Boatman, a lovely independent pub/restaurant known for their delicious Sunday Roasts. We made our way down to the boating station and chose a table with big bright windows (on which was a festive cracker)!

To drink, we ordered a pint of Tunnel Vision steam infused Ale 4.2. This is super local and actually comes from one of a team member’s family brewery. We really liked this! It wasn’t bitter at all and had a really nice flavour.

They have a special Sunday menu with lots of starter, main and dessert options. You can get 3 courses for £29 or 2 courses for £23. The mains obviously focus on roasts, but they have a vegan option and a non-roast option if you don't fancy it. They also have kids portions which is great for families (2 courses for £14).

The Pump Room is well known for its afternoon teas, but they now have festive ones which have a range of savoury and sweet items. Each one comes with a glass of Prosecco, but you can swap this for some sparkling orange citrus fizz if you prefer. 🎄

In the Roman Baths, the interiors are super grand and festive at the moment. They have Christmas trees and lights everywhere, as well as a live pianist which adds a little extra layer of fanciness to the experience.

Homewood’s new Dining Domes are a great solution for up to 6 people to experience a delicious three-course lunch, Champagne afternoon tea or dinner feast together. Each dome is warm & cosy, with soft lighting, blankets, winter flowers, and Dyson heaters. They're perfect for winter!

They kindly invited us down to try out the domes before lockdown, and the menu has changed slightly since then.

Fang & Neil are officially opening their new café, Sugar Cane Studio, this Saturday! 💛 Specialising in macaroons, madeleines, choux buns & more (some with an Asian twist), Sugar Cane Studio makes *delicious* sweet treats. We have reviewed them twice before (when they were only doing deliveries) and we were super impressed both times. 😋

Known for their incredible 2-4-1 cocktails during all-day happy hour, Turtle Bay is unsurprisingly very popular with students. The Caribbean-music adds to the fun, holiday vibe, as does the colourful setting & the large square bar in the centre of the restaurant.

They have an all-new brunch menu which includes a bottomless brunch option. There's even a 2 for 1 on brunch from 10-11am making it £7.50 for two people which is an unbeatable deal.

Noya's Kitchen is one of our absolute favourite restaurants in Bath. Noya originally started with supper clubs and then opened her own restaurant a couple of years ago. It's constantly packed and was no different during our Friday lunch visit, creating a really lively atmosphere and happy buzz, while the colourful, stylish interior and carefully selected decor provided a pleasant, calming feel.

We especially love the little personal touches, such as the family photos scattered around the restaurant. It’s a fantastic restaurant that never fails to impress & is definitely in our top 10 in Bath which is why we were really excited when Noya invited us back for lunch again.

Let’s be honest, it’s been a tough year! While the future is still fairly uncertain and things continue to feel a bit miserable, there is one thing that is sure to improve your mood in the meantime – Italian food!

One positive of recent months has been the adaptability and resourcefulness that we’ve witnessed across local businesses. From changing physical set-ups and figuring out the logistics, to changing approaches entirely and focusing on new things, there has been a lot of creativeness about and we are here for it!

One new lockdown innovation is Dr Al Forno, a Bath takeaway providing Italian street food and specialising in Al Forno dishes. Their authentic and traditional food can be ordered through Uber Eats and Deliveroo or collected from Widcombe.

JUNO is a super chilled and unique spot in Bath, filled with lots of pool tables, TVs with sporting events, skateboards on the walls and more. In terms of food, they serve a range of pizzas, burgers, sandwiches and sides along with a super extensive drinks menu. As an independent, all of the pizza dough is made fresh in house every day and the meat is sourced from local butchers.

Thoughtful Bakery is a lovely independent bakery in the heart of Bath. When I lived near Kingsmead Square my flatmates and I used to always get our bread from here as it’s so delicious. They do a range of different breads, pastries and lunches as well as pantry items, drinks etc. They also do fantastic doughnuts in unique & wonderful flavours every Thursday.

You can go to the bakery as usual, click and collect (£5 minimum spend) or get their goods delivered to you (£10 minimum spend, £5 delivery charge). On this rainy morning, I decided to just brave the weather and head out in search of pastries (they really are that good).

Strawberry & pistachio danish 🍓 [£2.80]

A delicious, flaky pastry with a soft and slightly sweetened vanilla crème patisserie, crunchy pistachios and fresh chopped strawberry. A nice, light pastry.

Henry's is one of those Bath restaurants that I've always wanted to try but never quite got around to. Known to focus on seasonal, honest food with a flair of finesse, it was the first place I booked when I heard about the Eat Out To Help Out scheme.

We walked into the relaxed restaurant and were instantly greeted by a friendly member of staff. We were given the menus (we decided to go for the £20 set lunch menu which would work out at £10 each... such a bargain).

We love NOOK so much. It’s a great healthy cafe in Frome (around 30 mins from Bath - map below) which does amazing smoothie bowls, juices, buddha bowls, poke bowls etc! The staff are always super friendly and although we've had their poke bowls a couple of times, we hadn't tried their breakfast.

From 3-31 August, the government has implemented an 'Eat out to Help out' scheme. What does this mean for us diners? 🤔

Between 3-31 August, you can get up to a 50% discount (😱) on food & non-alcoholic drinks (up to a maximum of £10 per diner), every Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday. You can do this as many times as you like (so you could go every single Mon-Weds in August and get 50% off participating restaurants). We've scoured the internet for all the places in Bath that have signed up to the scheme & have attempted to categorise them here. We hope that you find this list useful - please do let us know via DM on instagram where you end up going. I've personally booked a couple of the more expensive restaurants (e.g. Henry's) that I've always wanted to try and can now do so for a fraction of the price!

The Ivy is renowned for its opulent, lavish decor and the Bath branch definitely doesn't disappoint. The high ceilings, large windows, velvet chairs and chandeliers all exude an allure of opulence. Filled with plants and vibrant, rich colours, the main room feels exotic and transports you to a far-away place. The bright lights add to the magical feel, making this a really special place that is perfect for celebrating special occasions.

This time we were kindly invited to The Ivy to try their dishes now that they have reopened post-lockdown. The service was outstanding. Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed by their front of house who ensured we had our temperature taken using their thermal heat detection camera prior to entering the restaurant. This was super quick and non-invasive. She also showed us the dispenser of hand sanitiser and informed us that there would be a small bottle on every table, before walking us to our table and handing us over to our server. We thought that these coronavirus measures were really great.

Taka Taka is a firm favourite when it comes to takeaway food in Bath. In fact, you might not be a true Bathonian until you’ve devoured one of their wraps after a night out. But as you may well know, this isn’t your average kebab shop!

Based in locations across Bristol and in their Broad Street site in Bath, Taka Taka has a focus on high-quality Greek food. Their Bath store has a huge range of deli products too and we discovered that Taka Taka is virtually open for the entirety of the year, only closing on a handful of holidays, and serving their Greek delights until the early hours of the morning.

Field Doctor: Nutritionally Supercharged (and Delicious) Frozen Meals

Field Doctor is a new company based in Bath which makes naturally healthy, 'nutritionally supercharged' frozen meals. Marrying science with taste, the team behind Field Doctor have put an extensive amount of research, time and thought into these meals to ensure that each and every one is as nutrient-rich as possible.

Drawing inspiration from the Mediterranean diet, their meals are packed with plant-based ingredients, healthy fats and are a high source of fibre. Taking the environment into account, their cooking methods focus on low waste, all their fish is sustainable and they only use organic meat.

Their environmental impact is an aspect they are conscious of and intend to continuously improve upon as the business grows and develops. Their meals are wonderfully colourful, capture flavours from all around the world and look and sound absolutely delicious. We could not wait to try them.

Homewood is a beautiful countryside hotel in Freshford, Bath (map below) which has recently launched its new al fresco dining area, Olio. With a terrace overlooking the hotel's gorgeous grounds, the space is absolutely stunning.

With an ethos of British home-cooked food served in elegant but cosy and intimate surroundings, Olio has a range of innovative as well as classic dishes. They offer lots of sharing dishes, in addition to individual mains and sides. All the salads can be ordered as small or large, allowing you to tailor to your preferences - according to your appetite, party size etc. Embracing the Mediterranean, tapas-vibe, we ordered multiple dishes to share.

Open since April 2018, Bathen House is a luxury hotel. The Edwardian property underwent extensive redevelopment, providing a mixture of 12 rooms and suites, as well as a recently opened new restaurant ‘The Bouvardia’.

The menu has 2 or 3-course set menu options and is quite concise, showing the detail that has been put into creating each dish. The hotel itself is beautiful, and we were promptly given menus when we were seated.

As established wedding caterers, this brother and sister duo responded quickly to Covid-19, using their existing pizza oven and experience to launch a new aspect of their business - a fantastic example of impressive & successful pivoting during these difficult times! 🤩

This operates via a pre-order system which is either via text or call, making it super easy. It is collection-only with allocated slots every 10 minutes. Upon collection, we were warmly greeted by Sarah, their front-of-house who told us a bit about the business while her brother (the chef) finished off our order in the back.

Goulash brings to you homemade street food made with love. They prepare meals fresh daily, using consciously-sourced ingredients, including locally-sourced meat, organic beef, free-range chicken and even some vegan options. They also have frozen meals ready for you to store away for another evening which could be a great option for those wanting to stock up on food or for the vulnerable & elderly.

Focusing on the traditional Hungarian stew, the guys have come up with creative ways to incorporate goulash into standard as well as unique dishes, even including the popular Chinese bao buns! We've reviewed Goulash before (link here 👈🏼), but this time got the food via Deliveroo.

True Zest is a new delivery service in Bath which just launched today! It focuses on good quality & (mostly) healthy food. Created by a local couple both involved in the Bath food scene, they have created a great business and delicious menu to meet everyone's needs. Their menu (found here) is small but uses local & seasonal ingredients to cater to normal, veggie, vegan & gluten-free diets.

The lovely owners delivered 90% of the menu to us to try (the only thing that we didn't try were the olives). We were blown away with the level of taste in every dish, and would highly recommend this to everyone who is social distancing (they have a no-contact delivery service - more of that below).

Joya had a facelift a couple of months ago, transforming itself into an Italian Steakhouse (review here). Fortunately, Joya are still providing a delivery and takeaway service for anyone who is looking for nicer restaurant-quality food.

Nestled in FLY fitness, this café is perfect for anyone who has just been to, or is about to go to a class. They offer lots of healthy and protein-packed dishes to compliment your workout, as well as the usual staples such as coffee and avocado on toast.

With lots of healthy options, this definitely caters to those looking for a lighter breakfast choice, which is well-suited for a weekday, or pre-workout, when you don't want to feel overly full for the rest of the morning. They offer plenty of shakes and smoothies, in addition to smoothie bowls, which sets them apart from other cafés in Bath.

Protein pancakes with banana, blueberry, strawberry, honey, coconut & nut butter 🥞 [£5.50]

These were so beautifully plated, in a neat stack and surrounded by all the yummy toppings. We noted that even the nut butter had been prettily added to the side, an ingredient which is not easy to present. They certainly lived up to expectations in flavour, being on the denser side and loaded with cinnamon for natural sweetness.

Schwartz Bros is probably the OG burger place in the whole of Bath. With two locations (Saw Close & Walcot Street), they've been flipping some of the city's favourite patties since 1977. 🍔

They really focus on the quality of ingredients. Their hamburgers are made using whole cuts of beef flank and fore-quarter, simply minced with salt and then char-grilled. Forget about that awful plasticky cheese that you often find in takeout burger shacks - Schwartz Bros use non-processed mature cheddar. Everything is cooked to order and having heard so much about it, we were so excited to try it for the first time (how we have gone this long without trying it we're not quite sure).

The Pig & Fiddle has had a makeover! The back bar has been redesigned, there's new built-in seating with dining height tables and lots of vintage rugs, antique mirrors and an eclectic collection of artwork. Phat Yaks

Sister to Yak Yeti Yak, Phat Yaks offers Nepalese street food. This energetic cafe overlooks the hustle and bustle of Kingsmead Square and has so much to offer. From freshly made curry, Buddha bowls and vegan delights to speciality coffee and lassi (Nepalese milkshakes), Phat Yaks is well worth a visit if you're looking for something different for lunch. Happy March everyone! 🌼

Now that we're moving out of wintertime and into spring, you will probably start to notice lots more outdoor seating areas where people are laughing, enjoying their afternoon coffees and hanging out with their pooches at the end of a long day. We're working on getting an al fresco dining guide up ASAP (send us our favourites on instagram!)

Until then, here are a couple of cool events & fun new openings in Bath. Quite a few old favourites have had makeovers and launched new menus (Pig & Fiddle, Joya, The Walcot etc...) along with a couple of very exciting new openings which we're sure you've already seen on our instagram feed.

We were recently kindly invited to an afternoon tea event at Bailbrook House Hotel in Bath (London Road) with Twinings tea!

The lovely Lucy Chappell, Twinings’ tea expert, talked us through all the different teas and gave us a couple of fun facts - did you know that the UK gets through 165 million cups of tea a day?! 🤪

NOOK is an Aussie-style cafe in Frome (just a 30-minute drive from Bath) serving up breakfast bowls, Hawaiian-inspired poke bowls, juices & smoothies. Juices are freshly made each morning and their menu is 100% gluten-free with more than half of it being vegan. The ingredients are organic, local & ethically-sourced where possible which is great considering that their dishes are well-priced.

Green Park Station has always had a great range of takeaway food stalls and Goulash is no exception. Opened by the guys who used to have The Good Egg, they've transformed the place into a goulash stall. As we walked into Green Park Station, we could smell the delicious food and were super excited to try it out.

Some of you may be wondering what goulash is. It's a traditional Hungarian stew that usually contains meat and other vegetables, seasoned with paprika. The guys at Goulash have taken a traditional dish and given it a modern spin. They offer chicken, beef and vegan options, served with either pita, bao buns, rice, mashed potatoes, wraps or Hirata Buns.

Edinburgh is always somewhere that will have a special place in my heart. I finished my last two years of secondary school here and even though it was difficult to adapt to rainy, Scottish weather, my whole family and I fell in love with the city. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

It's full of beautiful architecture, an extremely rich history and friendly Scots. It's where J.K. Rowling wrote Harry Potter ⚡️ (which is evident when you go down places like Victoria Street which was the inspiration for Diagon Alley), where you can hear bagpipes wherever you are in Old Town (although sometimes it's just a CD that tourist shops play loudly to entice you in lol) and where you can drink as many different varieties of whiskey that your heart desires.

All-in-all, it's a great place for a city break and with direct flights & trains from both Bristol and London, it's easy enough to get to from Bath. This was the first time that I've been back since Summer 2016 and, excitingly, so many new food gems have popped up! 🍴

With all my recommendations from both friends who went to Edinburgh University and friends from the city itself, as well as all of the lovely people who messaged me on our instagram, we found some of the best food that we've ever had. Here's what we got up to.

By now, it will be no secret to you that Comptoir Libanais serves great Lebanese food at a reasonable price here in Bath. What you might not know, is that they actually have lots of vegan dishes on offer which is perfect if you're doing #veganuary 🌱, are vegan or just fancy something plant-based. It's also a great option if you're looking for somewhere to eat which caters to both meat-eaters and veggies without compromising on taste for either group of people.

We've been to the chain multiple times, but this time we were invited back to check out their vegan menu offering, including some exclusive plant-based dishes which are only available until 31 January (we'll let you know which ones they are - don't worry)!

Vegan Sweet Treats at Creams, Bath

While Bath has a lot to offer in the way of restaurants, when it comes to dedicated sweet-treat establishments, there are only a handful of options. We have a few top-notch ice-cream places in our city, but nowhere that seems to offer such a huge variety of desserts as the newly opened Creams.

Creams opened their doors just before Christmas, and if you haven’t come across the new café (it’s on Avon Street, just off Kingsmead Square), you might have come across their mouth-watering Instagram page.

We were pleased to see that Creams had such an extensive vegan offering 🌱, we counted 11 different dessert options from the menu (as well as vegan milkshakes!), plus you can build your own vegan dessert if none of theirs take your fancy.
