As I'm sure you have all heard by now, the government have provisionally given us the magic ✨ 12 April ✨ date for when restaurants, pubs and cafes can reopen (albeit, outdoor service only, up to 6 people and max 2 households). 

Here's a list of the businesses reopening for outdoor dining on the week of 12 April (please note that some may not open on 12 April itself, but later in the week). Make sure to scroll all the way to the bottom to see the places open near Bath too.

Pubs & Gastropubs 🍺🍴

The Hare & Hounds - A lovely gastropub with beautiful views, lots of outdoor seating space & a great menu! Make a reservation here.

The Locksbrook Inn - From the same owners as The Hare & Hounds, The Locksbrook Inn offers a really vibey outdoor seating area. Make a reservation here.

The Cross Keys - An 18th Century traditional inn with a large garden, serving classic pub food. 
Midford Road - ££

The Moorfields - This is the new gastropub that opened when The Bath Pub Co sold The Chequers to new management. We haven't had a chance to visit yet, but it looks lovely. Make a reservation here.
Third Avenue
(Oldfield Park) - ££

The Ale House - This pub is right in the centre of town and usually has three or four ales on tap to choose from. We would recommend this one more for drinks only, and not a sit down meal.
York Street - £

The Boater Inn - This Fuller's pub has a huge outdoor beer garden which will be ideal for spring/summer drinks. Make a reservation here.
Argyle Street - ££

The Crystal Palace - Another Fuller's pub which is really historic and has a great beer garden. Make a reservation here.
Abbey Green - ££

The Boathouse - A traditional, waterside country pub with plenty of outdoor space. Make a reservation here.
Newbridge Road - ££

The Packhorse - This community (gastro)pub in South Stoke has one of the loveliest pub gardens in/near Bath. Make a reservation here.
Old School Hill - ££

Victoria Pub & Kitchen - A family & dog friendly pub with a beer garden and 'all around good vibes'; perfect for summer! They have sheltered tables. Make a reservation here.
Upper Bristol Road - ££

The New Inn - This central pub has a large selection of beers, craft ales and a great, hearty pub food menu focusing on burgers, salads and bar snacks. Their roof terrace is perfect for sunnier days.
Monmouth Place - ££


The Bathwick Boatman - This lovely independent riverside pub is reopening on 15 April. It's got a great view of the River Avon and great food to match! Click here for reservations.

Cafes ☕️🧁

Green Bird Cafe - Perfectly located between The Royal Crescent and The Circus, this sweet, independent cafe has a great seating area with a few of the lovely Georgian buildings.
Margaret's Buildings - £

Cafe by Fly - One of our personal favourites, this cafe does great healthy protein pancakes, an array of smoothie bowls, juices and much more. Most of the items on the menu are 'healthier' as the cafe is at FLY Fitness (the gym!) It's really reasonably priced too.

The Kingsmead Kitchen - This independent cafe focuses on freshly prepared, locally-sourced food. Plus, you get a great view of the hustle and bustle of Kingsmead Square.

Society Cafe - It's safe to say that this is one of Bath's favourite cafes (drinks & sweet treats only). Just an FYI, their Kingsmead Square location (perfect for people watching) has far more outdoor seating than their High Street location.

Picnic Coffee - An independent, speciality coffee shop in Bath. They do some light food like sandwiches and cakes.
Saracen Street - £

The Courtyard Cafe - This colourful outdoor seating area is bound to put a smile on your face. They do a fab range of food, including a great looking breakfast menu. It's been independently owned for over 30 years!
Lilliput Court - £

Cortado - A fabulous British-Argentinian cafe that serves great breakfast, lunch, empanadas and sweet treats. The owners are super friendly too!

Wild Cafe - Another lovely independent cafe, this one has street side seating and a lovely breakfast, brunch & lunch menu. 
Queen Street - £

The Green Rocket - The ideal spot for veggies & vegans. They do great breakfast, lunch & dinner options too.

Mrs Potts Chocolate House - The mecca for all chocolate lovers. Brownies, cookies, hot chocolate & more. Go on... treat yourself!
York Street - £

Thoughtful Bakery - This wonderful local, independent bakery is reopening with a breakfast & lunch menu. While you're there make sure to pick up some bread or other goodies to enjoy when you're at home!
Barton Street - £

Whole Bagel - Your one-stop shop for all things bagels. They also have coffee, smoothies and milkshakes with lots of gluten-free and veggie/vegan options.
Upper Bourough Walls - £

Boston Tea Party - A great all-around cafe for breakfast, lunch and even dinner. They have great coffee too. Please note that only their Kingsmead Square location is reopening on 12 April. They have lots of outdoor seating in the square which is perfect for people watching. The Alfred Street location is reopening on 26 April for takeaway only.

Fox & Kit - This lovely independent family-friendly cafe has set up some outdoor seating which is covered (perfect if it's raining). They're reopening on Wednesday 14 April & of course will still offer their normal takeaway menu.
The Corridor - £

Dexter's - This sweet independent cafe has added some street side seating for you to enjoy some nice coffee & cake. 
George's Place - £

Rosarios - Come to this cafe for 'a little bit of Italian style in the centre of Bath'. Open for breakfast & lunch every day. 
Northumberland Place - £

The Circus - Although traditionally very much a 'restaurant' and not a 'cafe', The Circus Restaurant is operating a temporary 'snack style' menu from 10am to 3pm every day. Of course, they're still offering their takeaway coffee & brownies. 
Brock Street - ££

The Bath Bun - Famous for their Bath buns (not to be confused with the Sally Lunn bun) and afternoon teas, they have also recently added a charcuterie platter to their menu! It’s a great place to sit outside with a view of the beautiful Abbey Green square to watch the world go by. They also have breakfast, lunch (baguettes, panini, salads, soups etc.) and cake options.

Hands Georgian Tearooms - As the name would suggest, this cafe is well known for its afternoon tea, sweet treats and hot drinks. It's got a lovely location right by the Roman Baths.

Corkage - If you're looking for an award-winning, independent wine bar with great small plates, this is the ideal place for you. It's great if you're looking for something a little fancier. They have a heated terrace & garden! Click here for reservations.

Clayton's Kitchen - Everyone knows by now that this is probably our favourite restaurant in Bath. It's definitely for fancier occasions but the food is always delicious and beautifully presented. We would highly recommend the fillet steak, the fish of the day and the passion fruit crème brûlée which is to die for! *Reopening on 14 April. Click here for reservations.

The Scallop Shell - The ideal place for fresh, delicious seafood and amazing fish & chips. *Reopening on 13 April. Click here for reservations.

The Bird Hotel - Their 'Plate Terrace' has both dining domes and the more traditional 'al fresco' tables, with some extra flair and colour. Great for afternoon drinks or food! Click here for reservations.

The Royal Crescent Hotel - Situated in the most stunning setting and gardens, this is a fabulous choice for a lovely, chilled (but delicious and fancy) lunch in the hotel's gardens. Click here for reservations (booking essential). *Reopening on 14 April

Noya's Kitchen - This is an epic Vietnamese restaurant with the sweetest owner and head chef ever (Noya). *Opening 6 MAY

The Bath Priory - This beautiful hotel's terrace & four acres of gardens will be open for all-day alfresco dining, with a new vibrant and informal terrace menu serving breakfast, brunch, lunch and supper, packed with seasonal, light and exciting dishes. For a full day out, there are new exclusive-use pool and poolside packages for up to 12 guests from two families, which include exclusive use of the pool and poolside areas, delicious food throughout the day and access to the gardens and garden games. Half day and indoor pool packages are also available. It's the perfect spot for a glass of Champagne or any other choice of tipple, everyone is welcome, whether to eat or simply enjoy a drink, with the terrace open from 8am until late.

Beckford Bottle Shop - This is another fantastic wine shop which does great small sharing plates. Perfect for al fresco lunches with a delicious bottle of wine. With over 250 wines to choose from, I'm sure you'll find something you love.

The Abbey Hotel - This hotel has a really nice outdoor seating area which would be perfect for drinks in the afternoon sun!
North Parade - ££

Bonghy Bo - An Asian fusion restaurant with Thai, Chinese and Japanese dishes to choose from. They have a really good outdoor eating area considering it's so central!

Pintxo - A Basque-style tapas & sherry bar!
Barton Street - ££

Bath Pizza Co - Ideal for a laid-back pizza & pint. Lots of outdoor seating (under Green Park Station) & they have heaters to keep you warm.

Rooted Cafe & Supper Rooms - A fantastic restaurant bringing together food from several different cuisines. They're also great for veggie options.

Dough - Another great pizza place in Bath. This one is particularly unique because it has over ten different pizza bases to choose from, some of which are more nutrient-dense than the classic white flour base. They're opening a new spot in Kingsmead Square which will have outdoor seating!

Turtle Bay - Caribbean food, 2 for 1 cocktails and good vibes.

Portofino - This new restaurant, from the same owners as Italian restaurant 'Antica', will open its doors for the first time on 12 April. The oyster bar & restaurant will focus on seafood with an Italian twist (Prosecco-battered fish & chips anyone?)
High Street - ££-£££

Cappadocia - This Turkish and Mediterranean restaurant has a delicious menu with lovely mezze options. They have some street side dining available.
Newmarket Row - ££

Indian Pizza Company - This lovely place offers the perfect fusion of Indian food with pizza. You might be doubtful but trust us: it works so well! They started as a takeaway-only spot, but they are opening an outdoor seating space on Friday 16 April! Spaces are limited but you can book a table by direct messaging them on instagram @indianpizzabath.
Windsor Villas - ££

The Roseate Villa - This beautiful boutique hotel has lovely views over Henrietta Park to enjoy while dining in their gardens. They have a cocktail menu as well as food menu which features a range of sharing/charcuterie boards, finger sandwiches and sourdough pizzas. This is a lunchtime spot only (12-5pm), and booking is required. Click here for reservations.

Boho Marché - Serving Mediterranean and Moroccan dishes, Boho Marché brings 'eclectic dining to the Bath food scene'. Their menu is a great mix between Moroccan and more contemporary dishes (think shakshuka, marinated aubergine with warm homemade Persian bread and Moroccan butternut curry, as well as truffle tagliatelle, a rib-eye sharing steak and more). The Real Italian Pizza Co. - This lovely & authentic pizzeria now has a covered terrace available for outdoor dining every day of the week! It's actually the first restaurant I ever went to when I first came to Bath on a staycation 10 years ago & continued to be a favourite throughout my uni years here. Click here for reservations.

Wolf Saloon - From the owners of Wolf Wine (super quirky and great wine & drinks shop), they're going to be opening their secret garden in this speakeasy-style saloon on Thurs-Sat evenings. They also do pizza!

Sub 13 - A great bar with 2 for 1 G&Ts and a great terrace perfect for afternoon drinks.

The Hideout - Bath's whiskey bar! Although it's small, it's got great vibes.

Vino Vino - Right next to The Oven, this place is great for a pre or post-dinner drink!

Beercraft - Ideal for those pints. Walk ins are more than welcome, but you can also book by calling or popping them a DM on instagram. When you're in there you can have a browse of the multiple craft beers they have to bring home with you too.

Near Bath

The Wheatsheaf - This well-loved gastropub would be perfect for a more high-end sit down lunch, dinner or Sunday roast. There's a fire pit to warm you up on the colder days. Make a reservation here.
Combe Hay (15 min drive from Bath) - £££

Olio at Homewood - This is probably one of the most beautiful outdoor seating areas there is near Bath. The food is absolutely delicious and you have the choice of either doing sharing or larger plates. They also have dining domes which is fun! Click here for reservations

The Fox & Badger - This traditional, dog friendly countryside pub is reopening on Friday 16 April.
Wellow (15 min drive from Bath) - ££

The Methuen Arms - This Georgian coaching in is such a lovely pub! It's got loads of character and a fantastic outdoor area which is heated and comes with blankets.
Corsham (20 min drive from Bath) - ££

Lucknam Park - This lovely hotel has a great brasserie with outdoor dining. The food is delicious and grounds are beautiful. 
Colerne (20 min drive from Bath) - £££


Timbrell's Yard - This award-winning, family & dog friendly riverside hotel is reopening! Their new marquee has had an extension and it looks lovely. They're doing breakfast, lunch & dinner! Click here for reservations.
Bradford on Avon (20 min drive from Bath) - ££

Whatley Manor - This is one of the best places we've ever had the pleasure of eating at. Their multi-talented head chef Niall Keating has won several awards and they have over 12 acres of grounds to explore before or after your meal. They have added a bunch of outdoor dining to their courtyard lawn, and the menu is £25 for a main, three sides and a dessert - excellent value for money given the quality! More info here.
Malmesbury (35 min drive from Bath) - ££-£££


The Bath Arms - This traditional country inn is located on the edge of the stunning Longleat Estate in Wiltshire. They're opening Friday - Sunday for all-day outdoor dining from 16 April. Click here for reservations.
Horningsham (35 min drive from Bath) - ££

The Bear & Swan - This traditional 18th Century pub has a new marquee in the garden which is perfect for all weather conditions. They have an outside bar with a range of drinks, cocktails and a brand new pizza oven. They also serve burgers. Click here for reservations.

The Newt in Somerset - Outdoor dining is back at this wonderful hotel's Garden Cafe terrace, as well as afternoon tea in the hotel's garden. Click here for reservations.

Thyme - This absolutely gorgeous hotel has a lovely looking south-facing terrace which is ready for long al fresco lunches on Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays from Friday 16 April. They're not taking reservations, so it's first come first served.
