Lunch at Bonghy Bo, Bath

Bonghy Bo is an Asian restaurant focusing on Japanese, Chinese and Thai cuisines. We reviewed them back in July (link to that review ๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿผ HERE), but they have since had a menu update and also have updated and expanded their outdoor seating area which now has heaters which is great for those chillier evenings.

Although it's an 'Asian' restaurant, they also have some not so Asian options such as these staters which were recommended by staff and came nicely presented.

Fried halloumi (v) ๐Ÿง€ [£5.95]

The halloumi had a lovely crispy exterior with a spongy interior and was dressed with a sweet, chilli dipping sauce.

Panfried scallops ✨ [£7.95]

The scallops were juicy, fresh & rested on top of caramelised onions which added a lovely crunch and sweetness to the saltiness of the scallops.

Rice patty beef burger ๐Ÿ” [£11.95]

We had to try this because it looked amazing! The burger was filled with a beef patty, melted cheese, gherkins, tomatoes, salad, red onion and a burger relish.

The ‘bun’ was actually made out of rice which gave a nice Asian twist to the traditional burger, also making it gluten-free! It was very tasty and not as heavy as your normal burger. They also had a chicken & veggie version of this.

Five spice chicken ๐Ÿ— [£8.95]

The chicken was deliciously tender and came with a sticky, slightly sweet sauce. It had a smoky flavour to it and was packed full of mushrooms and topped with sesame seeds.

Fried rice (v) ๐Ÿš [£3.50]

This was really tasty, and although just a side, made a nice small dish on its own. It was presented really nicely!

Homemade brownie (v) ๐Ÿซ [£5.50 with ice cream]

This was served warm and had a lovely spongy, soft texture to it. It was served with salted caramel ice cream which was deliciously creamy, and strawberries.

Creme brรปlรฉe (v) ๐Ÿฎ [£7]

This had a thick, creamy texture and a nice hard topping to break which added a nice toffee-flavoured crunch. They set it on fire which was a nice addition!

Bonghy Bo has refurbished their outdoor dining area since lockdown and it looks nice with new tables & chairs, outdoor lighting and a few outdoor heaters on the top terrace which is great for some of those chillier days and evenings.

They have updated their menu which has a few new additions to it, catering for everyone that likes spice, and those that prefer something a bit more subtle. It has a lovely atmosphere and is a great, relaxed restaurant.

The service is very warm, friendly and attentive and overall we would say it’s good value for money. Their menu is also clearly marked with veggie, vegan and gluten-free options which is helpful.
