Dinner at Eight, Bath

Eight is a small, independent townhouse hotel with a lovely restaurant, combining modern cutting-edge cuisine with affordable pricing. Their small-medium sized dishes change seasonally & it always has a list of 10 different small plates with a mix of veggie, meat & fish options. We were recently invited to try it out.

Because the dishes are small-medium sized, it's really flexible and up to you how you want to do it. You could do sharing plates or order one for each course (which is what we did).

We both chose from the 'vegetarian' section for our starters.

Mushroom & goats cheese raviole with hazelnuts & parmesan emulsion πŸ„ [£10.55]

This was presented so beautifully. The raviole were really flavourful & this dish was a perfect example of molecular gastronomy.

Spiced deep fried tofu with soy dipping sauce ✨ [£9.90]

The tofu was crisp, light & tasted of ginger. This was a good summer starter.

For mains, we both chose dishes from the 'fish' section of the menu.

Seared tuna steak with stir fried summer vegetables and saffron aioli 🐟 [£12.85]

The tuna was very fresh & nicely seared (pink in the middle, as it should be). The vegetables were delicious & really stood out.

Warm octopus salad with chilli mayonnaise πŸ™ [£11.25]

This was nice & filling. The octopus, chives & potato had all been chargrilled and capers added a nice acidity. We loved the mayonnaise!

Of course, we couldn't resist trying the desserts, both of which were presented absolutely beautifully.

Mini pavlova with lime curd & summer fruits πŸ“ [£6]

This was the best thing on the menu for us. Zesty, fresh & just what you want in a pavlova.

Mango & passionfruit panna cotta πŸ₯ [£6]

This was delicious & creamy, with an intense vanilla flavour.

Wine pairing 🍷

You can choose a wine pairing with each dish which we would highly recommend. We loved all of the wines and we thought that they were excellent pairings to the dishes.

Cocktails 🍸 [£9.50 each]

After our meal we headed down to their cocktail bar which is in the basement. We had a Cosmo & a Whiskey Sour.

As you can see, the presentation was beautiful every time. Our waiter was very detail-oriented and the service was a level above the pricing of the dishes.

The location is super quaint & has so much English charm. The menu is split into fish, meat, vegetarian & dessert sections and most of the veggie options are or can be made vegan.
